Port Townsend, Washington Point Hudson Marina and RV Park 7/28 - 8/2

From: casarollnotes.blogspot.com

Tim and Linda Bunyan

PORT TOWNSEND, known for its Victorian buildings remaining from the last 19th-century heyday.  It is a maritime center for independent boat builders,

and related industries, and crafts.
It is drier than the surrounding region due to being in the rainshadow of
The Olympic Mountains.

Our RV Camp is on a semi-protected bay at Point Hudson on the Quimper Peninsula which extends out of the extreme northeastern end of the Olympic Peninsula on the

 Admiralty Inlet.

The Point Hudson Marina
Jim and Linda Drinkard came for a visit and drove us around to look for a potential settlement.

We walked around Point Hudson Marina and the main street.  We gladly settled into a hot dog outdoor food truck with a dog-friendly patio.

Linda and her companion dog: Teddy.

Cupola House

Jim and Linda and Rob and Sandy came to Port Townsend.  We set off to do the town!
First stop is the music on the patio.  We found our own table at the
 Elevated Ice Cream Shop.

We spent a splendid afternoon along the water at Port Hadlock Bay the charming
 Old Alcohol Plant.
Great menu, photos and location for spirits bar and grill.  The plant suspended operation of manufacturing wood alcohol (methanol) from sawdust about 1913.

Hadlock Bay with marina connected to the Sound.

Curious Rob Connelly and Tim Bunyan on the grounds of the Old Alcohol Plant.

Tim and I toured the Victorians in Port Townsend.

The 1868 Rothschild House Museum.  Located on the bluff overlooking Port Townsend Bay, you can almost see our RV space at the marina.  The Rothschild family is from Bavaria and came to the US in 1840.  He arrived by way of Cape Horn, to San Francisco.  He married a Sacramento girl when he opened a tobacco and cigar store.  Now famous as the Rothschild banking family.

The living room is just as it was when they lived there.  Shipping became is primary focus and his son later took over the business.  That enterprise, now known as "Jones Stevedoring" is still in operation and is based at the Port of Seattle.

The baby crib.

Met up with the gang downtown.  So fun having your friends there experiencing and enjoying new places to see.
Sandy Connelly, what a joy to spend days with her.  Such a girlfriend.!

Tim and I go on a bike ride over to Woodbey Island.....these motorcycle riders are taking the ferry crossing too!
Coffee Stop
Several days later, our departure to go to the Family Reunion in Bow.  The entrance to the ferry that takes us to Woodbey Island (the mainland)!.

Ride the ferry to Whidbey Island's West Coast to scenic and historic Fort Casey State Park.  Our bike ride is along the easy roads along the Fort's Fire Control Stations, the Batteries, and the main communications center buildings at Fort Casey.  The State Park sits atop Admiralty Head which offers sweeping views of Admiralty Inlet, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and the Olympic Mountains.

We return to Port Townsend on the ferry to join up with Linda and Jim and Rob and Sandy for a final night out to the
 1907 Rose Theatre.
Upstairs, at the Starlite Room, we brought food and cocktails to our seats from the cafĂ©.  The seats were assorted love couches, overstuffed chairs, and rocking chairs.

Our final day at the RV space (located at the marina at Port Townsend)  Tim takes Woodstock for a walk around the marina RV park.

We are off to the Family Reunion at Diz and Viki's house in Bow!
Looking forward to spending time with them and Mike and Paul have invited us to
 their new house in Blaine.

Chimacum, Washington Evergreen Coho SKP RV Park 7/23 - 7/28

Tim and Linda Bunyan

From Sequim, WA we proceed in an easterly direction of the Olympic Peninsula where we reach the center of the agriculture area at Chimacum, WA.  We have chosen to recluse at the Escapees Evergreen Coho SKP RV Park.

A nice surprise to us is Jim and Linda Drinkard arriving; Rob and Sandy Connelly came for a visit too!

We began our RV travel tours in 2016 at an SKP RV Park in San Diego.  This is now the second park we've stayed in (2019).   Available exclusively to Escapees members; managed and maintained by individual members of the op-ops.  Escapees members may purchase an SKP Co-Op membership, when available which entitles the use of a specified lot until sold back to the cooperative.

Picture Perfect RV spaces welcome us as we head east from Sequim.  Intro the fold of recluse in the center of the primary agricultural area of the Eastern Olympic Peninsula.

Recommended restaurant serving blue-plate specials.  The Chimacum Cafe, where all the news and best pies in town are to be had.  The waitress explained the progressive ag area with many small locally owned farmstands.  Currently, WA State University has acres reserved as incubator farms with the vision of educational and trade hub offering affordable, clustered local housing and a workspace for ag and horticultural science students to develop, grow, and master their crafts.

WE set out to discover Poulsbo, 10,000

the population on Liberty Bay with two city marinas and a yacht club.   Immediately what came to notice is the boat of our dreams: Cutwater!  This boat is designed and built to cruise and explore.  Trailerable models are available.  This is ideal for Puget Sound Adventure Boating.

July, August, September are the warmest months for Puget Sound Boating.  Poulsbo nickname if Viking City, Little Norway.  It is tiny with a fine water view.  Many come to experience a day in its shops and marinas and parks.

Liberty Bay features water, marina, and people activity.

Keyport
We drove to the West side of Liberty Bay for the quiet side: Keyport.
It is rustic and a diamond in the rough.

Port Ludlow
North of Poulsbo is Port Ludlow with a population of 2,600 and a planned, growing community located on the marine inlet.  It attracts more affluent residents, retired buying a vacation home or needing a convenient commute to the business centers of this west side of Puget Sound.  It has received high ranks for location and marina facilities as a convenient and popular port for leisure craft between Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands.

Marina facilities at Port Ludlow.

Met up with Sacramento friends: Rob and Sandy Connelly.  They are loving the SKP RV Park and signed for the entrance list which can take a year for an offering to come up.

Susan and Sandy.  Met up with Bruce and Susan Moneymaker.  They live in Lacey, WA near Olympia, WA and have purchased a boat they moor at a nearby yacht club.

Here are the happy SCY Sacramento crew at Liberty Bay, Poulsbo, WA.
It includes water; it's all good.

We say hello to Rob and Sandy as they are making their way thru Oregon and Olympic Peninsula.  What a great time this is to have our friends while we are on our 2019 Travel Tour!!!

Rob, Sandy, Tim, and Linda to spectate the American Sprint Boat Racing at the Extreme Sports Park in Port Angeles.   The Boat Races were crazy high-speed action and crash hitting the shoreline!
The track is designed to take these jet boats to speeds up to 90mph, pulling 70s around each turn in 3 feet of water.  A pre-determined racing path is created and racers/navigators must follow the corrct sequence through the course.

It was a fun day at the races!

Fun Day!  Tim and Linda moving on to Point Hudson Marina RV Park in downtown Port Townsend.  Rob and Sandy are going to visit Bruce and Suan at their home in Olympia.
