ONTO Route 66!
WE have driven south a couple of hundred miles from Jeff Peek and Gina's house, Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri to arrive to the heart of America: Bentonville USA, Arkansas where the World's top billionaires reside.
Our first inclination in planning to return to Sacramento was for us to take a direct route West to California. In planning the route, we took a slight turn and found Bentonville a sensible location to begin our Western movement.............on the Historic Route 66.
We checked in to the only RV Park in the county: Bella Vista.
It serves its county with multiple mountain bike trails and natural grounds for miles....including the multiple golf courses here in Bentonville.
"Looking Out Our Back Door"
Top-ranked Mountain biking areas in the country. The region has more than 140 miles of hard and soft trails for every level......but Tim and I did not attempt the trail. Our bikes (and our bodies) are made for paved trails.
It became of great interest to us to find that Bentonville is the birthplace and World Headquarters of the largest retailer in the world: Walmart. This is the 5 and Dime where Sam Walton began his retail business: On Main Street in Bentonville, Arkansas.
We discovered the Walmart Museum and founder Sam Walton's original five-and-dime store. The Walmart museum showcased Sam Walton's original office and the Spark Cafe Soda Fountain.
The area has some of the richest people in the world, the Walton family, as residents.
The employees are happy. This young man serves ice cream at the soda fountain as part of the museum.

Tim and I noticed museum mementos; reminders of our childhood.

Of course, we added to our PEZ collection.
The current CEO of Walmart is an employee that grew up working for Walmart.
WORLDWIDE Walmart. Tim and I were thoroughly enthralled with the Walmart Museum and their story and the ripple effect within this community, the county, the state, and the world.

Sam Walton's (now grown) daughter Alice opened the American Art museum which was designed by architect Moshe Safdie. Tim and I are a couple of the 3 million visitors that have passed thru the (free) museum since 2011.

We walked along acres of the art trails outside the museum building.
We toured the Frank Lloyd Wright house. Alice Walton accepted this house from the east as it was beginning to decay. Alice has it preserved, acquired, and moved it to the Crystal Bridges museum grounds in 2015.

The Mildred Cooper Memorial Chapel is in Bella Vista, not far from our RV Park. Designed by E. Fay Jones and constructed in 1988. It was commissioned by John A. Cooper, Sr to honor Mildred Borum Cooper, his late wife.
E. Fay Jones is one of Frank Lloyd Wright's disciples having achieved the AIA Gold Medal. He was an apprentice of Wright and developed his own organic aesthetic with materials found in The Ozarks and familiar tradition forms from his home region.
We ended our visit to Bentonville driving around town to ........all the
'perfect' Walmart Stores.
