Pacific Northwest Travel Tour 2019 June
We've come into the Oregon Wind from the North. It is blue, sunny skies; however, the wind is prevalent. We are in Soth Beach State Park.
We do scout around Newport and find an interesting mix of features. It does have an active waterfront and a large harbor.

Tim is checking our bikes and pumping up the tires for a ride about the town of Newport. Our friends Larry and Karen own a condo here, yet we've no idea the location. With many to choose, this fishing town makes for a pleasant visit and a population of 10,000 and a mild, wet weather during the winter months.
The Yaquina Bay Bridge is a recognizable landmark. The State University houses the Hatfield Marine Science Center. A lot to see on this bike ride around Newport, Oregon.

We rode our bikes on a nature trail that overlooks the Yaquina Bay estuary. We spotted the Aquarium and decided to quickly go inside...…….We spent hours at the Oregon Coast Aquarium.
The Aquarium sets on 23 acres along Yaquina Bay near the Pacific Ocean. This is the place home Keiko, the orca who starred in the movie Free Willy. He has been shipped to Iceland and very satisfied.
This is a world class, top ten aquarium in North America. Exhibits include secrets of shipwrecks, jellyfish and tide pool exhibits.
"Passages of the Deep" in Keiko's former tank. We walked through an acrylic tube surrounded by deep water marine animals: sharks, rays, and rockfish.
On the Yaquina bay front, intermixed with the restaurants and usual gift shops is the fresh fish and Dungeness crab industry and has become known as the Dungeness Capital of the World.
Nye Beach central district Oregon Coast Council for the Arts are based in Nye Beach. Beachcombers, Performing and Visual Arts enthusiasts, crabber, clam diggers come to Newport, Oregon.

The commercial crabbers have been harvesting for over a decade. The large fishing fleet is evident in the marina. This is Oregon's largest commercial fishing fleet.
Obvious diversity of fisheries commercial fishing fleet where the sea meets the land.
Fish shipped out by truck alongside the Bayfront.

Tiles embedded in the waterfront with fishermen names, boat, and year perished as a tribute to the fisherman
Newport also has an art community. At the beachfront, (Nye Beach) we found we could walk the sand along the ocean waves or on the main street there are cafes and art shops
