9/16/2018 Stop #28 Blue Ridge, Georgia - Morganton Point

From: casarollnotes.blogspot.com
Tim and Linda Bunyan

We've departed the city of Atlanta and beautiful Stone Mountain Campground Resort to head to the north border of Georgia at 1,500 feet elevation.......to 'Apple HIll' !!!  We have reached Blue Ridge Lake at Morganton Point Recreation Area in the Chattahoochee National Forest.  It is a nice, welcome change of scenery.

The MAIN GATE, the Host arrived to greet us at check-in.
Told us wood or ice is delivered to our site.

"Looking Out Our Backdoor"

At 1500 elevation, we have left behind the beaches of the Atlantic Seashore, Florida and the Keys, and the city of Atlanta to a new environment!  From beaches and the city to the small towns in the woods near the Blue Ridge Mountains in Georgia.
 Apples grow in these hills.
The charming small town of Cherry Log has a post office with a population of 119.  This is a special place where couples come for their wedding day celebration events.  Many VRBO vacation rentals are advertised.  It's a good place, it even says Jesus Saves.

We go to the town ofBlue Ridge to climb aboard the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway for a sightseeing trip through along the Toccoa River to the train stops in McCaysville, GA/Copperhill, TN.

We arrived early for our ride in a vintage Premier Seating, climate-controlled coach.

We notice one of the train cars is donated from New York, one of Flagler's Systems!
Blue Ridge Scenic Railway 1/4 mile long.

Tracks were first laid in 1886.  As we look out, we are traveling along the Toccoa River.
