From our Keys outpost on Big Pine Key, we made a couple of day drive visits South into Key West. We are now headed North up to Key Largo for a final week in the Keys at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park on the Overseas Highway.
"The Real Florida" The park was created to protect and preserve a portion of the only living coral reef in the United States.
Miami newspaper editor, John D. Pennekamp was one of the early proponents of the preservation of the park's coral reef. He also helped establish Everglades National Park.
