From: casarollnotes.blogspot.com                                                                      Tim and Linda Bunyan

About 150 miles east of Chicago we stay overnight in the parking lot of the

RV/MH Hall of Fame in Elkhart, Indiana.

The Hall of Fame museum recognizes, preserves, and honors the history, pioneers, and individuals instrumental in making the Recreational Vehicle and Manufactured Housing industries what they are today,  Our "home on wheels".

Front entrance of Hall of Fame.

The all-American family experience of travel with a "home on wheels" is often replete with memories and stories of the road and images of scenic places.  1916 Telescoping unit built in Salifornia on the back of a Model T Ford roadster.

"Go where you like, stay as long as you please, with all the comforts of home.

Tim and I spent much of the morning inside and these are a few of the collection.  So many, but only chose a few standouts.
1958 22-foot Airstream Trailer.  Flying Cloud.
1935 Covered Wagon Travel Trailer built by Mt. Clemens, Michigan, by Hall of Fame member and industry pioneer, Arthur Sherman.  The exterior is "genuine leatherette" over a thin plywood shell and the roof is covered with coated canvas stretched over tarpaper.

2013 Shasta Airflyte 19' Reissue.  This is a nearly exact replica of the iconic 1961 Shasta Airflyte 16SC Travel Trailer.  Made by Shasta to commemorate their 75th anniversary.

So many interesting RVs.  These are just a few.
This 1880 John Deere Conestoga Wagon was brought out of storage.  This wagon is from around 1885 to 1895.  Studebaker started building wagons and John Deere
used these axles when it began production.
1929 Wiedman Housecar

1933 Ford Kamp Kar, custom-built by homebuilder Walter Runkle of Macomb, Illinois

1988 Star Streak - a gift from the Paul and Maureen Jones family.

1967 Winnebago Motorhome: first motorhome model built on a 6-cylinder Ford chassis by Hall of Fame Member John K. Hanson.  Restoration by Winnebago.
Restaurant Essenhaus, Mike, and Sherry highly recommend.

We have the afternoon with the threat of rain.  We want to see the midwest's largest outdoor Flea Market by the Menno-Hof Amish & Mennonite,  We have time for a drive-thru tour as everyone is closing up and rushing to their homes.

Shipshewana, Indiana

Blue Gate Restaurant and Local Bakery
Farmstead Inn, one of a kind destination.

This town museum showcases the history of the Amish and Mennonite peoples.   High industry in tourism and travel industry in this LaGrange county economy.

The streets were active with everyone rushing to cover as the rain began.  We could not visit anything open.   This rural American town is a place we need to return.

A new look to the Food Truck.  sheds made into picnic stops.
Rural cattle farm

We plan a couple of nights to visit the Gerald Ford Presidential Library in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  We are moving on to stay at Harvest Host Robinette's Apple Haus.
