9/25/2018 Stop #31 St Louis RV Park, St Louis, Missouri

From: casarollnotes.blogspot.com
Tim and Linda Bunyan
We've arrived at the city of St. Louis, Missouri from the apple hill region of Blue Ridge Lake, Georgia.  (See map-web version).  The Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge, recently completed in 2014 is a welcoming reminder St. Louis remains strong and the gateway to the West!
St. Louis
We are eager to find the visual Gateway to the West, so we are up early to stroll the grounds and view the aspects from all angles.

The Eads Bridge is combined steel and railway bridge which continues to move people across the Mississippi.  The MetroLink runs through this refurbished bridge.  The Eads was originally envisioned in 1874 and financed by Carnegie.
You can see the walkway going underneath the land portion of the bridge with the MetroLink above.

Tim and I walked from the old town along the Mississippi and under the MetroLink bridge into the Gateway Arch National Park.

The Gateway Arch National Park is near the starting point of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.  Initially a national memorial in 1935.
One of 11 bridges across the Mighty Mississippi in St. Lious.

Alternative to the stroll around the National park

Stairs and Walkway entrance to the park, waterfront, and the gateway.

This park is expansive and we are delighted we have a few hours to embrace and absorb the ambiance and wonder of Lewis and Clark as they began on their

 American expedition.

Lewis and Clark Statue with their Newfoundland dog: Seaman.

The Gateway Arch is 630' stainless steel built in the form of a weighted catenary arch.
The Gateway Arch is the world's tallest arch, the tallest man-made monument in the Western Hemisphere, and the tallest accessible building in Missouri.
Built as a monument to the westward expansion of the United States.
Tim climbs the stairs just to enter the base of the Gateway Arch.

Entering the museum below the arch is an area geared toward the environmental sound experience of the Lewis & Clark Expedition.  There are many large screens to walk through in an extended lobby.

Taking the stairs further below the Arch is the route of the expedition engraved into the travertine floor.

The visual of the rivers and flow which guided Lewis & Clark.

The view from
the top of the Arch is incredible.  The arch is reflecting on the Mississippi River.  The Missouri River flows into the Mississippi north of St. Louis.

A great view, one can watch the ballgame from here of the Cardinal's Baseball stadium (Busch Stadium) in downtown St. Louis!

View of Old St. Louis Country Courthouse, built in 1864 now part of the Gateway Arch National Park.

The Old Cathedral The Basilica of Saint Louis, King Of France.  First cathedral west of the Mississippi River.

Downtown St. Louis and the river looking north where the Missouri River enters the Mississippi River.

Happily used for promotions and commercials.  Several 'hitches" or teams of horses travel around the United States and others remain in the official homes at the company headquarters.

On our  back to our RV park in St. Louis, we made a final stop on Route 66 to Ted Drewes

World famous "Concretes" included his mother, Mildred's choice called the Frisco which includes fruit in it.
